The Roos have experienced many exciting high points in our 6 years as an RFL team. Here are just a few.
Kayla took 3rd place in the I Pink I Can DJ Battle.
Patty's new play "Kids' Quest For The Cure" debuted at the 2024 SL Christmas Expo, raising over US$400 for the American Cancer Society.
Roos' 6 year fundraising total reached US$27,474.
In 2023 the Roos rededicated ourselves to supporting small teams rather than holding our own blockbuster events. Our 'Monday With The Roos' dance parties continued to be fun for everyone and raised US$1,364 shared among 22 teams.
Despite refocussing on others our 5 year total raised for Relay For Life hit US$23,000.
Our Patty Flow turned playwright in 2023, choreographing and directing "A Child's Journey Through Cancer: the Musical". Consisting of a cast of Roos and Cure Chasers the show played to acclaim at the 2023 SL Christmas Expo.
The Roos and the Cure Chasers partnered to achieve an amazing stretch goal of L$2M+ (US$8,322) at DreamFair 2022. It took the combined effort of our 5 sponsors, 5 partners, 66 performers, 13 hosts and an awesome cast of behind the scenes workers to pull this off.
The annual Relay Weekend of Relay For Life of Second Life 2022 was held on June 11-12. Our DJ Kayla was a host of the 2nd annual Tailgate Party on the Friday night before.
The closing ceremony for Relay 2022 held a big surprise. Our Alison Flow was named 'Spirit of Relay' for 2022 citing her contributions as ACSinSL Calendar keeper in addition to ubiquitous presence at RFL events. This, of course, could not have happened without the support of all the Roos including honourary Roos.
DreamFair 2021 exceeded our wildest imagination. A magical build, 31 hours of top flight entertainment, rides (including sky diving and the worlds longest water slide), auctions, raffles, gacha sales, and an SL boating exhibit combined to boost the fundraising to unprecedented levels. We raised US$5,032 for Relay For Life thanks to the support of our sponsor, Red River Saloon, and the generous donations of all those that participated.
Our very own DJ Kayla was thrilled to be asked to host on Relay Radio during Relay Radio's 1st Annual Tailgate Party on the Track. Of course the Roos had to dance along by (under) her.
Roos With A Dream raised 3 times our 2020 amount ending the season at $US7,200. This brought us a Diamond fundraising award and placed us 7th among the 145 teams participating in RFL 2021.
The Roos stepped up our game for Relay For Life of Second Life in 2020:
We held our first multi-day event, the DreamFair, in March raising US$1,100 shared among 10 Relay teams that supported us.
We expanded our 'Monday With The Roos' dance parties to a weekly event raising US$1,140 and sharing that among the 17 teams that participated.
And with some strong team fundraising effort we propelled Kayla Flow to the top spot in the 'Celebrate Remember Fight Back DJ Competition' hosted by the Relay Rockers team and raised US$1,598 for them in the process.
We are proud of the US$2,483 that we raised for our own team (achieving Jade fundraising club status once again) but even more proud of the combined results of US$5,417 raised for all the teams at our events.
The Roos and the Cure Chasers became closer than ever in 2020, supporting each other's events. In the end we adopted each other and declared ourselves 'sister teams'.
The year we started. We raised US$2,300 and had a ball doing it. We originated Monday With The Roos BYOK Dance Parties as a biweekly event.
We were shocked to be named 'Spirit of Relay - Team' at the closing ceremony! (Our good friend Sienna Thor was named 'Spirit of Relay - Individual'!)
