Closing Relay 2022

The closing ceremony for Relay 2022 held a big surprise. Our Alison Flow was named 'Spirit of Relay' for 2022 citing her contributions as ACSinSL Calendar keeper in addition to ubiquitous presence at RFL events. This, of course, could not have happened without the support of all the Roos including honourary Roos.

Relay Weekend

The annual Relay Weekend of Relay For Life of Second Life 2022 was held on June 11-12. Our DJ Kayla was a host of the 2nd annual Tailgate Party on the Friday night before.

Monday With The Roos 22

We wrapped up 15 consecutive Monday nights of 'Monday With The Roos' BYOK dance parties on May 30. The Roos would like to thank everyone who attended for the fun you brought us every Monday night. 

It was a joy for us to host these parties and a great pleasure to share the credit for the US$1,246 we raised with the 19 teams who joined us for at least one Monday.

We treasure the support you've all shown to both us and to our shared dream... a world without cancer!!!

SHB Gems Dance Contest

Team SHB Gems invited the Roos to compete in a dance contest vs the Seekers of Hope team on May 28. Vote was by donations to RFL kiosks, raising US$302.

Medieval Faire

The Sunbeamers invited DJ Kayla and the Roos to perform at their 2nd annual Medieval Faire on May 28. Despite the axe throwing, archery and jousting contests, no one was hurt (well, badly anyway). The day long event raised US$429 for Relay for Life and both teams went up a level in fundraising awards.

Roos vs Rockers Dance-Off

Held on May 21, 2022 the contest was a lot of fun and ended, as expected, with Roos on top. It was a close contest so I'm sure the Rockers will be demanding a rematch next year! At the end, just to show there were no hard feelings from the tough trash talking, we danced together for the last set. In total, the event raised L$100K (US$400) for Relay for Life. 

Sunbeamers Air Show

At our good friends the Sunbeamers 9th Annual RFL Air Show Fly-in on May 21, DJ Kayla and the Roos were grateful to be invited to perform onstage from 10am until noon.

RelayStock

The Roos were at one of our favourite events, RelayStock, all weekend long from May 13-15. 

DJ Kayla and the Roos were on stage from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday the 15th raising US$230 for RFL with the help or our generous supporters. Thank you!!

ChaserRoos @ Party Beach

Cure Chasers and the Roos With a Dream Celebrating Heroes of Hope at Party Beach Scheveningen. Nine great entertainers and many very generous guests helped us raise over US$1200. Thank you!

DreamFair 2022

The Roos and the Cure Chasers would like to thank everyone who supported us in achieving an amazing stretch goal of L$2M+ (US$8,322). It took the combined effort of our 5 sponsors, 5 partners, 66 performers, 13 hosts and an awesome cast of behind the scenes workers to pull this off. Around Relay for Life

The Roos try to get to as many of the other teams' RFL events as we can.

Roos' Holiday Village

From December 1 to 31 our Holiday Village, was open with plenty to do. There were kiosks all around the village  for people to make a donation to the American Cancer Society  and we raised a total of US$62.

We had:  Santa & Grinch Live, Santa & Grinch Photos, Sleigh Rides, Winter Village, Winter Petting Zoo, Christmas Tree Farm, Horse & Buggy Ride, Skiing, Sledding, Snow Mobiles, Train Ride, Children's Rides & Games, Ice Skating, Santa's Workshop, Gingerbread Houses, Picture Poses, Carriage Tour Ride, Ski & Sled Slope, Snowball Fight Area, Ski Lift, Game Area, Dance Area, 30 Item Gift Hunt, 50+ Free Gifts, ....and more

SL Christmas Expo

From December 3-14 we were either at the Expo stage shepherding the entertainers, helping Santa add nice people to his list or shopping. The Expo raised US$37,239 for the American Cancer Society.

We also had an entry in the Lights of Hope Home Decorating Contest which took 3rd place in our division raising US$30 for the ACS.

Bash for the Bros

As part of Men's Health Month, Roos donned our 'Roos Sister' outfits and raised US$76 at the Bash For The Bros event held by Campers For A Cure. (We're still not sure who's Elwood and who's Jake.)

Strides

October, breast cancer awareness month, was a busy month for the Roos. We performed at the Sci Fi Expo and 'I Pink I Can' raising US$223 for the American Cancer Society. We also hosted for a couple of singers at IPIC.

Fall Festival

We held our first ever Fall Festival to raise money for the Strides campaign. The region-wide event featured: Trick or Treating, Pumpkin Carving & Painting, Apple Bobbing, Petting Zoo, Putt Putt Golf, Prize Hunt, Dragon Flying, Boat Rides, Hot Air Balloon, Haunted Saloon, Haunted Forest, Zombie Hunting, GCS. And.... The Forgotten Forest (not for the faint of heart).  We even got to put on one of our Monday shows at the Fall Festival. In all we raised US$76 for ACS.

Patty's Dance Recital

Our Patty Roo attended the Adored School of Dance to learn pre-choreographed dancing. The school had a recital on Sunday August 29 featuring 4 dances and one of them was our Patty's!! She worked long and hard on this and it turned out great!

Relay Weekend 2021

Our very own DJ Kayla was thrilled to be asked to host on Relay Radio during Relay Radio's 1st Annual Tailgate Party on the Track. Of course the Roos had to dance along by (under) her.

Relay For Life 2021

Relay For Life 2021: A Cure for a Happy Ending! exceeded our wildest imaginations. Not only did RFL 2021 set a new record for RFLofSL at US$417,000, Roos With A Dream raised 3 times our 2020 amount ending the season at $US7,200. This brought us a Diamond fundraising award and placed us 7th among the 145 teams participating in RFL 2021.

Sunbeamer Air Show 2021

The Roos were honoured to be asked to perform at the Sunbeamers' 8th annual Air Show. After talking about it for over 2 years, we were finally able to execute our dream entrance... via Chinook helicopter piloted by Kayla 'Crash' Flow. We raised US$100 for Relay For Life and had a lot of fun with the very punny Sunbeamers. Thank you Beamers!

Christmas Expo 2020

The Roos were pretty busy at this year’s 10th annual Christmas Expo. In addition to performing as DJ Kayla and the Roos, we were hosts for many of the singers at the Holly Jolly Cafe entertainment venue. In addition, we took the role of Santa several times throughout the Expo. We are very proud of our contribution to helping the Expo raise over US$32,000 which is earmarked towards eliminating the suffering from childhood cancer. The Christmas Expo took ACSinSL over US$4 MILLION cumulatively in its 15 year lifespan.

Strides 2020

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Roos were proud to be a part of 3 major Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events, the SL Renaissance Festival, the I Pink I Can event, and the Strides Walk-A-Thon. Through our performances at RenFest (where we also had a ball hosting) and at I Pink I Can, as well as our participation in the walk, we were able to raise over US$500 for the American Cancer Society. Overall Strides 2020 raised an amazing US$33,100.

Rock Your Rack 2020

On October 18 DJ Kayla and the Kangaroos performed at the annual Rock Your Rack event benefiting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. A big thank you goes out to all our supporters who came to party with us and donate to this cause. RYR raised US$5100 this year.
